Beyond The Lens Photography bio picture

Visual Artist Unleashed

I am a mother, a wife, a friend, and a photographer.  Photography is the part of my life that has brought me here:

Welcome to my blog.  Here you can find my most recent work along with other tidbits from life's adventures.  I have had a camera in my hand since my first son was born 12 years ago.  Since then, what was a hobby, has flourished into an obsession and a career.  I find my passion for photography grows everyday.  Whether it is something new to learn, a new friend to make, or a new place to explore.  Photography challenges me, and allows me a creative outlet all at the same time.  So I welcome you to look around and get to know me a bit, feedback and conversation are always appreciated.  And check back often for new posts and stories!!!

Noah Turns 3, Happy Birthday!!!!!

Sunday was Noah’s 3rd birthday, and as most of you know, I am really selfish with my boys when it comes to their birthdays.  I don’t do parties or really anything else.  I have to be the first one to tell them happy birthday, they get an obnoxious amount of hugs and kisses throughout the day, they get to pick their favorite dinner, I usually make a homemade cake, and the whole day we just spend time together as a family.  Because when it comes down to it….nothing else matters!  I can’t believe Noah is already 3.  I know it sounds cliche’, but it seems like yesterday he was this little bean in my arms!  Noah is an absolute joy and I feel so honored that God thought enough of Joe and I to allow us to be his parents.

Noah turning 3 eating his birthday cake

I took the opportunity on Sunday to take the kids out in the yard and grab some pictures of them. Here are some of the shots I got…

Noah, Joe, and I play this game called “Who do you love the most”.  I’m sure all of you parents out there are familiar with it, but let me just fill in the blanks.  Joe or I will ask Noah: “Who do you love the most?”, and no matter who is asking the answer is always “You!”.  Here is a sequence of that conversation :)

ILove UMore

Here is Branndon, being sweet as pie…can anyone see his halo?

“The big one” (at least that’s what I call him these days) AKA Christian!

Here they all are together.  I love how different they all are!

And then he devoured the cake :)

Val & Sidney; Engagement Session – Astoria Park, Queens, New York

Last Sunday Joe and I had the pleasure of hanging out with Val & Sidney in Queens, which is Sidney’s old stompin’ grounds.  Being honest I was completely freaked out about doing this shoot.  I am pretty confident in my skills.  Throw me into a park or on a beach and I’m in all my glory, but it was really important to Val and Sidney to do their shoot in Queens.  Believe me, I tried throwing a sunflower field at dusk at them, but it as not happening.  So what is a photographer to do when her clients want something different than her vision?…….Um-mm bring it!

So here are Val & Sidney in all of their glory.  Joe and I had so much fun getting to know you two and your relationship.  Thanks so much for the tour and great times.  We are certainly going to do it again :)

We started our shoot at a favorite cafe of Sidney’s called Cafe Bar.  This place was awesome.  It had really great moody light and all kinds of decor.

This is what Joe and I ate.  It was Val’s recommendation, and it as bangin’!!!!

Caley & Mike; Wedding in Waterbury, Connecticut

I swear there are times in my life that I have to stop and pinch myself, because I literally have the GREATEST job in the world and the best clients on the planet.  Caley and Mike are two of the coolest people I have ever met.   I can give you at least 47 reasons why, but that would take too long so I’ll tell you a few. Caley is that girl next door…BUT, she used to be a professional hockey player!  So were most of her bride’s maids.  Caley and Mike are also that irresistibly sweet couple you see in the corner of Starbucks that are all googly eyeing each other and playing footsie under the table.  As if that wasn’t enough, these two literally come from two of the greatest families I have ever had the pleasure of being around.  I honestly felt like one of them and that made my job (as if it’s really a job at all) so much easier.  I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of something so wonderful.  I am truly humbled by you all :)

Caley and Mike got dressed at The Ethan Allen Hotel in Danbury, CT and were married in The Shrine Of Saint Anne’s Church in Waterbury, with the reception following at The Fox Hill Inn in Brookfield, CT.

Here are just a few of the details from the day.

Caley and Mike’s first dance completely brought me to tears, not only because they are so completely in love, but because Mike’s father played the piano and sang “She’s Got A Way” by Billy Joel.  You can see him there at the piano.

IMG_6366

IMG_6844

Mike’s mom fought back tears most of their dance together and I could see her beaming, yet crying the whole time.  This is a moment that always touches my heart, not just because I am a mother of three boys, but seeing this primal emotion fold is amazing.

IMG_6882

 The band was amazing….absolutely amazing!!!

untitled-4

In the beginning of this series are the shots from the toasts.  One from the Mike’s brother, Caley’s sister, and Caley’s father.  Again I don’t know if there was a dry eye in the room.

Untitled-9This was a must have shot from Mike.  His fellow hockey team members had brought him the jersey and insisted that we get this shot by the bar.

IMG_7068

Another touching moment of the evening was when Caley’s sister got on stage and sang “Come Away With Me” by Nora Jones.  AND…it wasn’t like karaoke at all, she was amazing.  Not to be out done, Caley’s brother got up on stage and sang his rendition of “Piano Man” by Billy Joel, while lifting the lyrics off of the Internet via his iPhone.  Caley, Mike, and every person in the room enjoyed every minute of it!

Meet Sofia; Cutest Connecticut Newborn

A few weekends ago I got to spend the afternoon with the Sipe’s again, only this time it was to welcome into the world their sweet baby girl Sofia!  Ummmm…you had me at hello…SERIOUSLY!  I think I did more holding and cooing, than photographing.  Sofia talked to me the whole time, letting me know when she was ready for her close up and when she wanted to just chill!  Watching Lucy and Chris go through this experience has been awesome and I know it is only going to get better for them.  These two are natural parents and Sofia is quite the lucky girl to have them.  Congratulations again guys, and thanks so much for sharing her with me for the afternoon!!!!
