Beyond The Lens Photography bio picture

Visual Artist Unleashed

I am a mother, a wife, a friend, and a photographer.  Photography is the part of my life that has brought me here:

Welcome to my blog.  Here you can find my most recent work along with other tidbits from life's adventures.  I have had a camera in my hand since my first son was born 12 years ago.  Since then, what was a hobby, has flourished into an obsession and a career.  I find my passion for photography grows everyday.  Whether it is something new to learn, a new friend to make, or a new place to explore.  Photography challenges me, and allows me a creative outlet all at the same time.  So I welcome you to look around and get to know me a bit, feedback and conversation are always appreciated.  And check back often for new posts and stories!!!

Workshop RAW Style!; Winvian Resort, Morris, Connecticut

In the beginning of July I was privileged enough to be invited to the very first ever, Raw Photo Design Workshop, given by Eric Langlois of Raw Photo Design.

The day was filled with radness and über fantastic tips…..the main one being…FIND THE LIGHT!  After shooting with Eric all last year, I’ve become use to his craziness and the “fly by the seat of your pants-make it work” shooting style that he possesses.  Don’t just do it, do it until you kill it, and then kill it one more time for good measure.  And in true Raw Photo Design fashion, Amber and Eric both killed it. Not only with Eric giving us his time, and skillz (something that he doesn’t have to do, but if you know Eric even a little, you know he’s a giver) and Amber completely rocking the camera for us (something we all know is a photographer’s dream).  Lisa and Dan also completely rocked things, with their charming good looks and personalities.

It’s no secret to anyone that I completely *heart* Eric and Amber, and I could go on for days and days about how much fun I had, and the kind of people they are, but…….I guess you guys will all have to get in line for the next workshop to find out!

 ****Disclaimer****

There is a metric ass whack (yes that is a redneck term which means :a lot) of photo goodness here

Vegas Baby!!!!!!

I don’t even know where to start with this post…..
I guess at the beginning….

Last Friday I flew to Las Vegas for WPPI. This is the photography convention of the year! It’s a huge trade show/workshop/class/networking experience. It was my first year attending and I have to say, i don’t see my self missing it next year. I will, however, be bringing my husband next year. It’s just too much fun for him to miss.
At any rate on with the experience. My first two nights were spent with the fab-u-lous Val McCormick and her cousin Alicia. Now Val is a slamm’in photographer, and we all know that…but what we didn’t know is that she has an AMAZING family. They all took me into their homes, and their hearts and treated me like I was part of their family. It has enlightened my life in so may ways. So the first part of my trip was a lot like a girls retreat, filled with REAL Spanish food, great conversation, and warmth from strangers that became my home away from home. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

On Sunday Eric RAW :) and his wife Amber arrived. How much fun are they? Sunday afternoon we went out on the strip and rocked it Vegas style while Eric took head shots for me. Yes it has been a long time coming, (because Eric is constantly booked) but they are finally done, and I’m sure they’ll be up sometime in the near future (wink, wink). We, of course, had a blast which is the “dream team’s” prerequisite for hanging out anyhow!

On Monday it was WPPI and classes, and trade show floor marathons, and yes…V.I.P. parties!

Tuesday greeted me with sore feet, bags under my eyes, and a mental breakdown from lack of sleep. I made it through another class, a stroll through the trade show, and made it over to the suite of the uber fantastic Justin & Mary Marantz to throw my ugly mug on the Portrait House PSA, shot by the unbelievably talented Ron Dawson. If you haven’t clicked on the Portrait House link yet, check it out. They are doing some amazing work for charity and giving back some love!!! I ended my Tuesday in the airport, rushing to catch a flight home, just to find out it was delayed 2 1/2 hours. Oh well!!! I made it home and the rest is history.

Needless to say, I had a blast. I didn’t have my camera out a whole lot, but I did manage to do some shooting…so without further ado…and in no particular order

Here is Alicia, AKA, one of my favorite people on the planet. We went out to Red Rock Canyon outside of Vegas.

LOL…Val getting her fuel on!!!!
Red Rock’in view…Are you kidding me????

Alicia again…..

Are you kidding me with those red highlights? This chick has got Sti-Z-Yle

A shot of Val on the airplane…playing with some window light and the 50 1.2

February 19, 2009 - 9:00 pm Val McCormick Photography - Awww, what a sweet post. It totally was like a girls retreat. I love those shots of Alicia. Getting gas, lol. The window light in the plane are cool I just cant get over the swelling in my face, storytelling ;-) Those landscape shots are unbelievable! My family can't stop talking about how fun and funny you were. No reason to catch a comedy show in Vegas when you got "D" in the house! Pimpin' in the LVC, lol. I know I'm a dork. Can't wait for next years and bringing the hubby's fo sho. We can't be having any more elevator incidents, lol ;-)

John Micheal Cooper Workshop; Raw Photo and Beyond the Lens Photography

Yesterday I woke up at 3AM and didn’t get home until 12AM all in an effort to meet the man…the myth…the legend…John Micheal Copper. I have heard Eric go on and on and on and on about this dude all the time. I’d seen his stuff, and of course thought he was bad ass, but none of this really hit home until Eric called me about 2 months ago and asked if I’d go to JMC’s workshop. I was in and on we went. What a blast!!!! Not only did we get to meet JMC and the Wiebners, but we got to meet lots of other photographers outside of our normal loop. The cherry on top of all of this was the mountain of info JMC provided us with. From metering, work flow, and editing tips, to marketing, packaging, and philosophy. Needless to say it was insane! Well worth the 10 hour drive!!!
So I got a few pics…but I am off to Chicago tomorrow and I don’t have the time right now to edit them all. I thought I would post this one little picture though….
